Austria is in for some heavy rainfall. Here is the weather forecast for the next week.
In the mountains, it will be wintry again. A low-pressure influence will bring mostly dense clouds already on Friday. It will still rain persistently and sometimes heavily, especially towards the north and east, forecasts from Geosphere Austria. Snow will fall in places to just under 500 meters, but mostly the snow line will move around 1,000 meters.
Weather forecast: Only a few sunny windows at the weekend
In the far west, the precipitation will subside during the day on Friday, and in the afternoon, the sun will already show up at times. The rain field will also gradually weaken in the south. The wind will blow moderately, sometimes briskly, from westerly directions; in the south, it will remain light. Early temperatures will range from zero to six degrees, and daytime highs from three to eleven degrees.
On Saturday, compact clouds will continue to prevail; only in the south will there probably be enough for short sunny windows. During the first half of the day, it will rain mainly in the northeast; in the west, there will still be a few dry hours. During the day, however, another precipitation field will move in here, and the rest of the country will also experience brisk shower activity in the afternoon. The snow line will rise to around 1,000 to 1,400 meters above sea level during the day. In the north, mostly moderate winds will blow from southwest to west. Otherwise, it will often be only lightly windy. Early temperatures should be zero to seven degrees, daytime highs six to 15 degrees, with the highest values in the southeast.
The low-pressure influence in the Eastern Alps will weaken somewhat on Sunday but often remain cloudy and rainy. Particularly in the west, it will rain on the northern side of the Alps, and rain will also move in from the southeast. The snow line is mostly between 1,100 and 1,700 meters above sea level. In the other regions, the sun will be visible at least occasionally, alternating with denser clouds and only a few showers. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from northwest to northeast. One to seven degrees Celsius is expected in the morning, followed by seven to 14 degrees daytime highs.
Rainfall also at the beginning of the new week
At the beginning of the new week, the so far weather-dominating low moves south to southeast. Thus, somewhat calmer weather is expected on Monday. However, especially along the northern side of the Alps, there will still be some heavy clouds in some areas, and some cumulus clouds will develop during the day; there may also be some rain or rain showers. The snow line will rise to 1,500 to 1,800 meters. Overall, the sun will shine much more often, especially in the south and possibly east. The north wind will pick up strongly, especially in the Föhn valleys on the southern side of the Alps and the eastern edge of the Alps, with early temperatures of two to six and daily highs of nine to 16 degrees.
On Tuesday, clouds are likely to move in again. There may also be some rain, especially in the center of the country, north and east. The snow line will mostly be 1,500 and 2,000 meters above sea level. It is rather dry and generally friendlier in the west and the south, even if a few denser clouds can also pass through here at times. The wind from the northwest to the north will still blow briskly in some areas on the southern side of the Alps and in the east. The early morning temperatures will range from three to nine degrees and the daily highs will be from ten to 15 degrees.
